Kitchen Renovation In 2018? Costing Is Key

If you are looking to buy an ex display kitchen as part of your big home improvement plans for 2018, remember that costing is key.

Results of a new study from VELUX published by the Wiltshire Times has found that one third of those of us looking to spruce up our abodes this year will be investing in a new kitchen, while 24 per cent wish for a new bathroom and 19 per cent are investing in structural work such as extensions and conversions.

However, 33 per cent of those looking to invest in major home improvements and DIY in 2018 have not costed their project, while 76 per cent admit they do not know how they will pay for it.

Also worrying is the lack of consulting with experts,

with VELUX reporting that only ten per cent have discussed their plans with an architect, while three-quarters have not yet received a building quote with which to begin costing or comparing other services.

“Whatever the project, it’s absolutely crucial to bring in a good professional as early as possible. Not only will they steer your project from start to finish, and work within your budget to help you get the space you want, but they’ll also come up with ideas that you might not have considered,” VELUX project manager Grant Sneddon was quoted as saying.

Traditionally. People begin thinking of a big home improvement project over the festive season, which is why 22 per cent of householders begin work in the first quarter of the year.
