There are a number of trends within kitchen design at present and one that’s expected to gain traction in 2019 is the concept of sustainability.
House Beautiful named it among its top kitchen trends to watch this year, explaining that it covers multiple elements of kitchen design. On the one hand it means that consumers are increasingly choosing durable, sustainable materials for their kitchens.
But it also means looking for kitchens that tick other environmentally friendly boxes. If you buy an ex display kitchen, for instance, you’ll not only get a brilliant quality kitchen at a reduced price, but will also be purchasing something that can have a new lease of life in your home.
Both wood and stone are growing in popularity as materials for kitchens, and this could also be inspired by consumers’ desire to get back to more natural materials and move away from plastic and other things that are considered unsustainable.
Wood was also included in a list of kitchen design trends to watch in a recent post by Brit + Co. Angie Lee, from Manhattan planning, architecture and interior design firm FXCollaborativ, told the website that natural materials as a whole are seeing a resurgence.
“Natural organic materials – such as wood floors, stone, and daylight and plant life – remind us of the exterior and bring the outside and nature in,” she explained.
Meanwhile, porcelain tiles were also included in the website’s list as one to watch, with experts pointing out that these are a good alternative to stone surfaces, particularly around areas like the stove and sink, because they are so difficult to damage.
