Writing for the Guardian, Nell Card explained that her and her husband quickly decided to go down the second-hand route when it came to remodelling their kitchen after feeling uninspired by what was on offer from standard retailers.

“Having lived with it for two years now, we know it is possible for a free-standing, secondhand kitchen to perform the same functions as a fitted kitchen, for a fraction of the price,” she stated.

Ms Card also offered some advice on how to go about buying a preloved kitchen. Her first tip is to work out what layout you want in your space, so that you know exactly what you need.

She noted that avoiding standard fitted kitchens will give you many more options, from the materials you use to the type of storage you install. Her top tip when it comes to actually looking for the kitchen of your dreams is to “keep your search broad, but your measurements precise”.
